A USB-C power bank is only a temporary solution to the BYOD battery requirement. While the College will allow these to be used during class, the following are conditions regarding its use. Excessive use may lead the College to conclude the device is not compliant, in which case, a power bank will no longer be acceptable to use with that device at the College.
The power bank:
- must be a sealed, manufactured battery. DIY custom-built powerbanks pose a safety risk and can’t be used at the College.
- must only charge the laptop over USB-C.
- should be less than 100Wh in size.
- must use a cable shorter than 30cm to connect to the laptop.
- should be sitting next to the laptop whenever in use.
- needs to be used in a way that maximises the desk space available to anyone sharing the desk.
- shouldn’t be used in the majority of lessons.
- shouldn’t be used to keep a non-compliant device operational indefinitely. A power bank is only a temporary solution towards a replacement device.
